Creating in the times of Covid-19 has been challenging for many artists. There could be tremendous pressure on the ones who signed up for commissioned projects pre-lockdown. The lack of inspiration, sedentary lifestyle, a not so optimistic mental state due to everything happening around can restrict one from putting their heart and soul into their work. And without that, in my opinion, one’s work is just some content. Irrespective of its’ commercial aspects.
Over the period of last few years, I’ve learnt to allow myself to be easy on me. Few steps that help me when I’m struggling with mental barriers are – to start doing things that are most convenient while I’m sitting with my coffee or in bed. It could be as simple as start writing the things I need for the shoot. Next day could be about getting all those things out together in one place and keeping them in front of me to remind or inspire me. Could be figuring the outfit required for the shoot the next day and iron it to keep it ready for the shoot. And if the client has a strict deadline, all these steps could be spread over the number of days you have in hand.
With this project for Fizzy Fern, I wanted to create images for the brand featuring some of their star products. From being a skincare-obsessed in my teens to now becoming a minimalist, it has been quite a journey. However, I still love me some face-mask, under-eye cream and a good sun protection if I’m stepping out (into my balcony these days). And nothing better than treating my skin with handmade, paraben and sulfate-free products that do only good and no harm to your skin. While these products have done a fairly good job on my skin so far to improve the texture, I cannot go without talking about their foot cream which works wonders in treating your heels.
Skincare works like therapy to get me out of blue moods. On a typical monsoon day, I make some breakfast for myself, listen to soothing music and mask for a few minutes. Only to feel my skin refreshed, hydrated and baby-soft. Very aptly, a fizzy-fern like.
p.s – Apologies to the very patient folks at Fizzy Fern for being considerate and allowing me the time I needed to put this self-shot set of images together.
