When it comes to beauty and skincare, I have always been more inclined towards natural home remedies than the fancy products available in today’s age. As a teenager, I had my days of breakouts and tiny pimples on my forehead which just refused to go until I adopted a strict skincare regimen of cleansing, toning and moisturising, something I started in my 7th grade. That, along with grandma’s secrets and all the remedies I could possibly find in newspapers and magazines. I still have a big bunch of them stored in the safest areas of my cupboards, like treasures. The goal has always been to achieve a beautiful skin, but never a fair skin-tone, for I have always been comfortable with it.
Over the years, I have developed a holistic approach towards skincare and believe that what makes you feel good, shows on your skin. I remember using fuller’s earth, sandalwood, besan, lime, yoghurt, honey, aloevera and many more ingredients to make interesting face-masks, scrubs and cleansers. That used to be a favorite activity and past-time. Probably more because of the feel-good factor that comes with it rather than what the remedy actually did to the skin. Though it has now become slightly difficult to accommodate time to prepare these beauty concoctions, it’s wonderful to see some completely organic and cruelty-free skincare brands emerging today; the ones that are as good as the good’ol home remedies or even better. Gulnare is one such brand that I’m currently in love with. Featured here are – the Coffee Caramel scrub that smells divine and yum (probably they could even come up with an edible version of it), the Zesty lemon exfoliating face scrub that I usually mix with honey and rose water to make a mask, and my most favorite Rose Gold Elixir Serum that I could probably call ‘food for my skin’. I generally use it as a part of my nighttime routine, under my make-up or just to make my skin glow during the day.
I created these images to reflect the organic aesthetic of the brand in my own style, however this time, with a self-timer and a lot of back and forth to achieve the shots I wanted. I only wish to get better at it and not lose the patience that it demands.
With a resolution to get back to taking more care of my skin this year, I can’t wait to relive my teenage days with all-organic skincare regimen . But this time, with Gulnare.
